Abstract

A look back at a year in a 4th grade classroom with highly motivated students that came about when a former student, now 48 years old, returned home to visit his 4th grade teacher. According to this student, this was the seminal year that launched his engineering career that he now enjoys in Portland, Oregon. And, speaking for others, this was the turning point in his classmates' educational journeys too.

Author Biography

Six years a private school teacher, 32 years a public-school teacher and administrator in grades 4-12 in Virginia and South Carolina. Highly innovative and extraordinarily creative, asked to join the curriculum department of the 86-school district, finally teaching ELA, social studies, and humanities at the renowned 6-12 School of the Arts. Published One Bold Experiment with the Virginia English Journal several years ago about his highly successful 7th grade experience there.
