Abstract

GPS 's are becoming more and more popular these days, and are used in a wide variety of fashions. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) is used for travel, business, and pleasure. GPS' s have become an imp ortant part of our society in every aspect of life. They help us get where we want to go in a timely matter. "GPS provides accurate location and time information for an unlimited number of people in all weather, day and night, anywhere in the world" (Global Positioning System). Some say that GPS's have found their greatest connection with that of GIS. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) helps you answer and solve questions by looking at data that you gather. GIS is an easy way to bring data together in a quick and efficient way so that it can be shared and understood. GIS and GPS's are linked t ogether in a lot of different ways. We use GPS's in eve ryday life, but GIS is something we encounter unconsciously. "GPS/GIS is reshaping the way we locate, organize, analyze and map our resources" (Introduction to GPS, 2000). The information that we gather from GPS's is the data that we use to build a GIS. This paper talks about the different uses of GPS's. It talks about how we use GPS's and GIS in tractor trailers, trains, and ships. We will also look at how I use a GPS system for my work. It is used in my car for delivering pizzas for Dominos Pizza. GPS's have become a significant part of our lives. GPS's have played a crucial role in building a GIS, and have played a crucial role in how we communicate and transport goods.
