Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide some insight into the growth and impact of electronic commerce and Internet advertising as found in the Shenandoah Valley. In order to evaluate this impact, a comprehensive background must be obtained including: 1) how and why the Internet was developed, 2) types of electronic commerce, 3) advantages and disadvantages of electronic commerce and Internet advertising, 4) security and legal implications of electronic commerce, and 5) the future of electronic commerce and Internet advertising. By providing this information I will not only show the impact that electronic commerce and Internet advertising has fostered in the Shenandoah Valley, but also how the implementation of this technology has dramatically impacted the way business is conducted throughout the world.
