Abstract
A novel para-substituted porphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetra(p-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)porphyrin, (p-OCF3)4TPP, and its Zn2+ insertion product, Zn(p-OCF3)4TPP, were prepared using the Lindsey and modified Dorough procedures, respectively. The porphyrin and the Zn2+ porphyrin complex were characterized using 1H and 13CNMR spectroscopy, as well as visible spectroscopy. Additionally, the Zn2+ porphyrin complex was characterized by 19FNMR spectroscopy and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. While the 13CNMR spectra were inconclusive for both the porphyrin and its complex, all other spectra supported the successful synthesis of both compounds.
