Bridgewater College women formed a lacrosse club in 1967. In the spring of 1968, women's lacrosse became an official intercollegiate sport at Bridgewater College. The 1969 Ripples yearbook states that the first team was coached by Virginia Gross and Barbara Purkey. Varsity and junior varsity women's lacrosse teams played during the late 1960s.
The team had a winning first season and continues to perform, often sending women to state, district, and national tournaments. Of special note, Susan J. Billhimer '77 was goalkeeper of the U.S. women's lacrosse team when they won a World Cup Championship in 1982.
Mary Frances Heishman '66 coached the BC lacrosse team from 1971 to 1987. Jean Willi '80 was the head lacrosse coach from 1988 to circa 1996.
In 2013, Coach Mic Grant began the inaugural season of men's lacrosse at Bridgewater College. Bridgewater College continues to offer women's and men's lacrosse as competitive intercollegiate sports.
