Abstract
During autumn, chemical changes occur within the leaves of many deciduous trees. Visual evidence is abundant to prove that the pigments, or colored chemical substances, of the leaf go through a prescribed set of chemical changes during each autumn. Pigments disappear and appear during the period before the trees drop their leaves. The various changes within the leaf pigments can be traced by various chemical techniques. Therefore by experimentation and a literature search, the various pigment changes, reactions, and the mechanisms leading to these changes will be explored .
