Abstract
A continuing issue surrounding family and consumer sciences education are the stereotypes and perceptions that society holds against the subject. In reviewing the history of family and consumer sciences education, an extensive look into the history of domestic sciences and home economics is required to fully comprehend what family and consumer sciences truly represents. An in-depth look at the evolution of both the profession and the curriculum gives insight into the issues facing family and consumer sciences education today. A study of seventy-three Virginia comprehensive family and consumer sciences educators gives an up-to-date outlook on where family and consumer sciences education stands in today's society.
