Abstract
This paper focuses on various aspects of Marfan's syndrome. A discussion of famous victims follows the introduction and demonstrates the need for increased public awareness of this condition. Various skeletal and ocular symptoms are then discussed followed by methods of diagnosis currently utilized for this disorder. Various cardiovascular complications are presented in detail including aneurysms, regurgitation, MVP, and others. Marfan's syndrome is then examined genetically followed by a discussion of the key to this disorder faulty connective tissue. A possible explanation of this defectiveness is explored. An evaluation of actual surgical procedures and the increasing effectiveness of surgery is then presented. Recommended medications are then discussed, including a discussion of medications not suitable for Marfan treatment. Various methods of treatment of Marfan abnormalities are evaluated. The paper concludes with a guide to living with Marfan's syndrome.
