Abstract
The issue of overrepresentation of minorities in the special education classrooms throughout the United States has drawn much focus in recent years. The purpose of this paper was to examine the representation of the Hispanic population in the special education classrooms of Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City schools. Data reported to the Virginia Department of Education indicate a slight overrepresentation of Hispanic students in the special education classrooms of these schools. Information from local school systems indicates culturally sensitive assessment practices are not being used.
