Abstract
My honors project will explore the significance of stories in Native American literature and culture. The project will be an expansion of a paper I wrote in Native American Literature and Culture class of the importance of stories in Leslie Marmon Silko's Ceremony. The project will study the stories told throughout the history of Native American culture, as well as those found in more contemporary cultural forms, particularly literature. Depending on information found, I may include a comparison of the importance of literature to Western and Native American (or primitive cultures), using such storytelling forms as fairy tales and other legends.
