Abstract
Background and Purpose: This case report describes the effects of strength training on the balance of a 78-year-old woman. The purpose of the report is twofold: (1) to provide an overview of falls, balance, strength training, and their interconnection and (2) to describe the effects of an intervention program on a subject with poor balance. Case Description: The patient was a 78-year-old woman who suffered from poor balance, which caused frequent stumbling._ Outcome: Following a six-week strength training exercise program, her balance greatly improved and her frequency of stumbles declined. Discussion: With the evidence from this case study, the link between muscle strength increase and an improvement in balance was justified.
