Abstract
In light of the need to develop more effective methods of tobacco cessation counseling, the purpose of this study was to evaluate cigarette smokers' beliefs regarding the six Health Belief Model constructs. By comparing perceptions of smokers, recorded in surveys and personal interviews, clinician-initiated communication may be fine-tuned and targeted to address common beliefs about cessation issues.
