Abstract
My own experiences and observations have led me to recognize that there are clear contradictions and problems in the current conditions of work. This compelled me to engage with the current literature about work and the economy. In this analysis I present the findings of my review of scholarship concerning the nature of work in postindustrial capitalist society as well as the findings of discussion groups I facilitated about faculty and student experiences with work and free time. In the section that follows I will provide a thorough explanation of the methods I used in the coordination and facilitation of these discussion groups. Following this section I will provide a critical analysis of the problems perpetuated by our current political economy and the ways that we might begin to forge an alternative future, a transformation of our political economy.
