Abstract
The isolation, sequencing, and study of the bacteriophages which target this genus, may yield invaluable insight into the gene expression, regulation, and population evolution of Streptomyces phages. This research could not only contribute to the development of molecular tools in Streptomyces research, but also in biotechnology and within the medical field. The immediate goal of this research was to isolate bacteriophages of Streptomyces sp. 5A and purify their DNA. The longer term goal was to sequence the DNA and locate genes for PGH's which could be cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli for therapeutic use.
