Abstract
Across competitive Pictionary sessions, between high and low status participant pairs, we examined how winners verbally recapped each session. Consistent with Goffman's classic ideas on "facework", participants engaged in several face saving and face threatening techniques. Additionally those who faced the greatest risk of embarrassment were the most likely to employ self-protection strategies.
