Abstract
This study examines using in-depth interviews the formation of identity through digital photo albums within the online networking site Facebook. The goal of this study set out to determine why Facebook users create photo albums and how digital photo albums differ from analogue albums in their function. Ultimately, the author concludes that participants in this study create Facebook albums for three purposes: memory, identity, and sharing. Additionally, the creation of Facebook albums is a key factor related to identity formation within the online community of Facebook.
