Abstract
I started this project as a way to bring attention recent urbanization that has occurred in the Shenandoah Valley, and Rockingham County in particular. I have lived in Rockingham County my entire life and I have witnessed many changes over time. The population has grown dramatically, leading to more housing and a corresponding rise in property values and taxes. Little by little, Valley farmers and other property owners find themselves unable to afford land and are forced to sell to developers, which starts the cycle again. The rise in population and decline of farming and other traditional land uses results in a dramatic loss of agricultural land and increased urban sprawl and pollution.
