Abstract
As children in the United States are held to a higher academic standard, preschools have changed in order to focus more on reading and academics rather than just social skills. This study examines the types of literacy activities that are important in a child's development of emergent literacy. It also examines preschool programs currently being used with primary focus on the Blueprint for Early Literacy initiative.
