Abstract
The following paper will examine the American occupation of and policy towards Haiti from 1915 to 1934. Called a period of "hypocrisy" by one scholar , it was a time in which US actions toward Port au Prince were motivated by a curious mixture of racism, alleged humanitarianism, and raw imperial aggression that has left Haiti poor and unstable ever since. This obvious contradiction between ideology and practice was constantly motivated by racism and national interest which culminated in a violation of the highest ideals the United States claimed to embody.
