Abstract

The author provides a historical critique of the American institution of education identifying the major shifts in pedagogical philosophy that have shaped the enthymemic discourse of schooling. The purpose is to identify and track the social history that shaped American education so that change can happen moving forward.

Author Biography

Kyle Trott, Ph.D., served as an English teacher for twelve years before moving out of the classroom but remained in the realm of education. While beginning his journey at Northern Virginia Community College - Woodbridge campus - he earned degrees and certificates from Virginia Tech, the Northern Virginia Writing Project, Arizona State University, George Mason University, and The University of Kentucky.
